Inviting Pool Deck Constructed in Newburgh NY

Project Brief.

Starting Off

We were contacted by this client to evaluate their current deck and offer a solution for their goal.  The goal was to have a deck that connected to the above ground pool off the back corner of their home.  After assessing the existing one it was clear building a entirely new deck was the best route.  The existing structure had some improper connections and the joists, while may have met code, were already starting to sag.  Just a reminder here, “Code” is the minimum allowable spec acceptable for building.  This is not a benchmark unless you aim to have the least acceptable standards.

Agreement

Having proposed a design that was in line with their request, we had a solution and got to work.  Located in Walden, NY but under the Town of Newburgh building department we submitted our plans.  The plans were required, and are becoming required more often throughout Orange County.  Having the plans and scale along with the survey also helped approval by verifying the setback.  We were close and needed the confirmation for approval.  This project had additional requirements to meet pool code, including a 4′ self closing gate at the stair opening and having a alarm on the sliding door leading to the deck.

Materials

The deck was constructed with pressure treated frame components including a engineered girder (main beam).  The finish package was all Azek, being our preferred brand for style, performance and warranty.  The Azek deck color was Kona paired with white Azek premier rail using the square black balusters.  The rim joist (skirt) of the deck along with the stair stringers and risers are all wrapped with Azek trim.  This provides a beautiful look and mazimizes performance, providing a complete shell of ultra low maintenance.
